Presentation: “Atlas of Switzerland – Online”
June 29, 2016 17:30 June 29, 2016 18:30
In June 2016, the free Atlas of Switzerland was published online. This version, developed entirely from scratch at ETH Zurich, enables virtual exploration of our country and the interactive visualization of spatial and temporal relationships in new dimensions. The atlas allows for the three-dimensional visualization of all data as well as temporal sequences on a virtual globe. The use of innovative map symbols and diagrams creates a seamless transition from a classic 2D map to a perspective 3D representation—a world first! The data can be displayed in detail, queried, and analyzed, as well as directly compared with and annotated alongside other map themes. New, up-to-date themes, such as settlement development, are incorporated into the atlas. Unlike other data portals, great importance is also placed on high-quality cartographic representations of the themes, in keeping with Switzerland’s renowned cartographic tradition!
The new Atlas of Switzerland will be presented to an interested audience during a presentation at ETH Zurich. The presentation is open to the public and free of charge; no registration is required.
Wednesday, June 29, 2016, 5:30–6:30 p.m., ETH Zurich, Main Building, Lecture Hall E 1.1
