The legendary King Atlas supports the vault of heaven to prevent it from crashing down onto the earth. This is depicted on the title page of the magnificent Bern copy of the Danckerts Atlas. In January 1886, the 50 sheets came into the possession of what was then the City Library. In 2016, they underwent conservation treatment and were digitized. The Center for Historical Collections at the Münstergasse Library in Bern is displaying a selection of the most beautiful sheets. Our showcase exhibition offers a glimpse into cartographic research and the aesthetics of maps from around 1700.
