Relief Collection Restoration Project
In July 2015, the Alpine Museum (alps) launched a restoration project for its relief collection. By the end of 2016, an initial selection of twelve landscape reliefs (25 pieces in total) will be cleaned, conserved, and restored. Among them are works by Xaver Imfeld, Leo Aegerter, Simon Simon, Eduard Beck, Joachim E. Müller, Charles Dupuy, and Eduard Imhof. In addition, transport and storage cases are being custom-made for the plaster objects, which are fragile despite their size. The project is financially supported by the Accentus Charitable Foundation.
The alps’ collection of reliefs is the most extensive in Switzerland. Since the museum’s renovation in 2011–2012, all reliefs have been stored in the depots. In the coming years, the alps plans to launch a new collection presentation in which the reliefs will once again play an important role.
