The Boundary-Breaker – Colloquium Marking the 175th Anniversary of the Topographic Map

The first two sheets of the Topographic Map of Switzerland were published 175 years ago. The colloquium will examine the national and international context in which the so-called Dufour Map was created.
The Topographic Map of Switzerland emphasized the country’s national borders, while the cantons were only visible upon closer inspection. Despite this cartographic message clearly tailored to the federal state, the Swiss Confederation’s first official map was deeply embedded in transnational processes.
